Yellow Flowers
The repression that Catalan people are suffering is unprecedented in a 21st-century Europe that calls itself democrat. The case of Catalonia is today and without a doubt the shame of Europe. But the strong will and persistence of these peaceful people to defend their culture and their right to self-determination without going through violence is also extraordinary and exemplary. The constant offences that the Catalan people receive from Spanish government are incessant and flagrant. Many of their rulers have been imprisoned or have been exiled, and the censorship has reached extremes as hilarious as the prohibition of yellow symbols. And it is in this political and social context of the Catalan people where Werens develops his most vindicated work of recent times. The work that he is exhibiting today, “Yellow Flowers”, is a collection dedicated to this people, who go out to the streets one day after another to fight for his dignity with a unique weapon: yellow bows.
